Marit 3 years 3 months, Tessa 1 year 6 months

Het was alweer een tijdje geleden, dus de hoogste tijd voor een website update! Hieronder de ontwikkelingen van onze twee meiden.


Marit 3 jaar en 2 maanden
Marit is een nieuwe fase in de peuterpuberteit ingegaan. Dachten we het ergste gehad te hebben, blijkt dat dat nog peanuts was vergeleken bij nu! Ze wordt nu brutaal en wil overal het laatste woord op hebben (‘nee’ op een eigenwijze manier uitgesproken komt het meeste voor). Ook heeft ze af en toe buien waar ze zelf geen raad mee weet (“ ik wil wel een boterham/nee, ik wil geen boterham!’- op hetzelfde moment). Die buien heeft ze af en toe ook ‘s nachts: hoogst vermoeiend voor haar en voor ons, en niet altijd makkelijk om je geduld te bewaren en pedagogisch-verantwoord-te-reageren als ouder. Ook is ze in de “poep/kak/pies” fase aanbeland, waar ze zelf de mooiste woorden van brouwt en daar vervolgens dan helemaal dubbel om ligt. Praten gaat haar heel goed af, en ze begint steeds meer uitspraken terug te kaatsen of regels na te doen, in gesprekken tijdens ons, of met Tessa. Dan vertelt ze Tessa precies wat ze wel of niet mag, en dan weten we gelijk ook dat ze onze regels dondersgoed kent (maar niet altijd wil opvolgen). Tijdens de vakantie is Marit in 1 keer zindelijk geworden, luiers wilde ze niet meer om (onderbroekjes waren natuurlijk veeeel mooier) en ze was gelijk dag en nacht droog. Af en toe nog wel eens een ongelukje maar daar blijft het ook bij. Onze dame is een echt meisje en is helemaal gek van roze, speldjes, kettinkjes en armbandjes. Ook verzamelt ze graag kleine dingetjes (bv. steentjes) die ze dan in haar tasje stopt. Voor haar 3e verjaardag heeft ze daarom van de opa’s en oma’s een echt kettinkje gehad (met een olifantje, Marit’s lievelingsdier) en een juwelendoosje dat geluid maakt. Schot in de roos! Tijdens onze vakantie zijn we een weekje op Texel geweest toen het zo mooi weer was, en het strand vond ze geweldig (ondanks dat ze de zandbak soms nog wel eng vind). Met de blote voeten in het zand is nu geen probleem meer. Ze wil niet anders! Aanspoelende golven van de zee daarentegen zijn nog steeds wel een beetje eng!! Verder heeft ze een haat/liefde verhouding met haar zusje: aan de ene kant knuffelt ze Tessa dood en is ze erg zorgzaam voor haar als een tweede moedertje; en aan de andere kant kan ze ook zomaar ineens Tessa een mep verkopen, of haar omduwen. Het zal de fase wel zijn, denken we dan maar.

Tessa 1 jaar en 7 maanden
Tessa is ook al echt een peutertje, met net zo’n eigen willetje als haar grote zus! Ze liep al sinds een aantal maanden als een speer op haar knietjes het huis het huis rond, maar ze heeft dan eindelijk sinds 2 weken toch het echte lopen ontdekt. Zomaar spontaan een keertje s’avonds toen Jeroen haar op haar beentjes zette en vroeg naar hem toe te lopen. Van wat voorzichtige stapjes is ze overgegaan naar echt zelf lopen, soms zelf, maar de meerderheid toch aan de hand van mamma of papa, of wanneer ze een goede bui heeft, aan de hand van Marit. Tegelijkertijd komen er in plaats van ‘eh’ of ‘dies’ nu ook echt woordjes uit haar mond, bijvoorbeeld: papa, mamma, majit (=marit), opa, wakker, slapen, weg, drinken, eten, stappen, bal, fiets, auto, tui g (=vliegtuig), faf(=giraf), en wat andere klanken die bijna op het echte woord lijken. Net als Marit vind Tessa poppen ook helemaal leuk en sjouwt regelmatig met de poppenbuggy en poppenmaxicosi rond. Maar verder is ze totaal anders dan Marit en gaat ze echt op onderzoek uit, wat nogal eens resulteert in valpartijen, blauwe plekken, schrammen etc. Vorige week zelfs zat haar gezicht van verschillende voorvallen helemaal onder, en samen met alle blauwe plekken op haar beentjes van het kruipen op haar knietjes, zou je wel eens wat anders kunnen gaan denken! Tessa is een echte knuffelkont die je met haar lach helemaal inpakt. Op Texel vond Tessa het strand en dan vooral de zee helemaal geweldig: ze stapte zonder schroom de zee met de golven in. Toen kon Marit natuurlijk niet achterblijven en samen hebben ze de branding onveilig gemaakt. Samen met Marit spelen gaat steeds beter af, en ze hebben vaak samen de grootste lol. Voorgelezen worden door Marit vind Tessa dan ook heel leuk. En verder aapt ze Marit natuurlijk in alles (maar dan ook echt alles) na: ons klein kopieermachinetje!

It has been a while, so time to update the website. Please find below the latest adventures of our two little girls.

Marit 3 years and 2 months
Marit has entered her Terrible Threes, whereas we thought we had the worst of the Terrible Two’s by now! She is very cocky and always wants to have the last word (which is usually the word no, pronounced in a very cocky way). She also had tantrums that she does not know how to handle herself (“ I want a sandwhich/no I don’t want a sandwich – at the same time). She also has tantrums now at night when she is half asleep, which is even more of a challenge to keep you calm and act as a responsible parent than during the day. Marit has also entered the famous ‘poo/pee’ phase in which she creates her own words composed of these and then is in stitches when she says them. She can talk really well, and most of the time she now copies our rules or sayings - mostly in situations when she is naughty, or when Tessa is naughty. That shows us that she actually knows our rules really well, but she just does not always want to follow them. During the summer Marit finally became fully potty trained. She did not want to wear dipers anymore , as her pink underpants were much nicer, and she was dry day and night from the first day onwards. She had occasional accidents at the beginning but that was about it. Marit is a typical little lady as she loves to wear braces, necklaces, pink hairpins and the like. For her 3rd birthday, she received a real silver necklace with a little elephant from her grandparents, and a jewelry box from her other grandparents, which she was really pleased with. Marit also likes to collect all sorts of little stuff, like stones, which she then puts in her little pink bag and carries around everywhere. During our holiday in Holland at Texel (one of the islands in the north of Holland), we went to the beach and much to our surprise, Marit loved the sand (whereas at home she finds the sandpit a bit scary still sometimes). But since our return home, that fear has diminished fortunately, and now she really likes the sandpit! What she does find scary still though are the waves in the surf. Marit has a real love & hate relationship with her little sister: on one hand she cuddlesTessa to death and takes care of her like a little mother, whereas on the other hand she can easily slap her in the face, or push her over. We think it is probably due to the Terrible Three phase.

Tessa 1 year and 7 months
Tessa has entered the Terrible Two’s, so now we have to toddlers who are exploring their own identity and boundaries ! Tessa has walked on her knees for the last six months, but has since the last two weeks finally discovered how to walk. It happened by accident, when Jeroen put her on her feet and asked her to walk towards him. From a couple of uncertain steps at the beginning, she can now walk really well by herself, although most times she prefers to walk taking mummy or daddy’s hand (or Marit’s when she is a good mood). At the same time she also started to use words rather than the word “that” for everything. Tessa now says mummy, daddy, granddad, Marit, ball, plane, bike, away, drink, eat, sleep, walk, and a few other words which sounds like real words but are not really words. Just like Marit, Tessa loves to play with dolls, and she usually puts the dolls to bed or carries them around in the doll stroller or maxi cosi. However, Tessa is completely different from Marit in that she really likes to explore things and accepts that she bruises herself whilst doing so. Last week she had about 3 different bruises on her face & head, and together with the bruises on her legs from walking on her knees it would be easy to think the worst! Tessa is really cuddly compared to Marit as well. When we were on holiday, Tessa really loved the beach and the sand, and especially the sea. So when Marit saw that Tessa stepped into the surf without any fear, she could not stay behind. Playing together with Marit goes well most of the time, and they have a lot of fun together. Marit loves to read to Tessa, and Tessa likes that too. But what Tessa likes most is copying her big sister, in everything: she is like our little Xerox machine!

Marit and Tessa, two little sisters

Jullie hebben even moeten wachten, maar dan heb je ook wat, als de website weer eens geupdated is! De meisjes groeien en ontwikkelen gestaag, wat duidelijk te zien is in de foto’s! Zie hieronder de avonturen en ontwikkelingen van onze energievreters.


Marit 2,5 jaar
Marit wordt een echte grote meid. Ze schiet de lengte in en haar haartjes beginnen eindelijk eens te groeien. Ze is laatst naar de kapper geweest en nu proberen we haar pony bij te laten groeien, en met speldjes vast te zetten. Een aardige uitdaging, aangezien Marit als snel de speldjes uit haar haar rukt en bij Beer indoet. Praten kan ze als geen ander, en af en toe hoor je je eigen uitspraken terug. Erg komisch om te horen, maar ook verbazingwekkend hoeveel ze al snapt. Natuurlijk heeft de dame af en toe last van dwarse buien, voorals als iets niet lukt om als iets niet gaat zoals zij dat gepland had, en dan is het tranen met tuiten huilen tot aan hysterisch slaan en schoppen aan toe. Marit is gek op haar zusje en knuffelt haar soms letterlijk dood. Soms vind ze Tessa helemaal niet lief (vooral als Tessa Marit d’r speelgoed afpakt) en kan ze nogal venijnig reageren. Dat laten wij natuurlijk niet toe. Marit wil ook alles zelluf doen, en kan dat al goed. Ze kan al heel goed zelf eten, boterham smeren, de trap of en af lopen, springen (helemaal favoriet) en zichzelf aan- en uitkleden (met een beetje hulp van papa en mama). Kleien, tekenen, lezen en dansen vind ze geweldig, en televisie kijken . De smaak van de maand varieert nogal, maar op het moment zijn Dora, Teletubbies, Zandkasteel , en Bert, Ernie en Elmo favoriet.

Tessa 1 jaar
Tessa is echt baby-af en is een peutertje aan het worden, met net zo’n eigen willetje als haar grote zus, zoniet erger! Ze kruipt sinds een aantal maanden als een speer het huis rond, en begint nu te staan en zichzelf op te trekken. Ook kan ze nu een beetje duidelijk maken wat ze wil door ‘eh’ te roepen en te wijzen naar het onderwerp van interesse, en zegt ze mamma en pappa. Tessa vind andere kindertjes helemaal geweldig en is niet bang van herrie of lawaai. Ook is ze een echte waterrat: o wee als ze uit bad moet want dat is echt niet naar madams’ zin! Tessa haar boventanden zijn allemaal door en de onderste tanden wachten op de laatste aanvulling van de hoektanden. Ze eet nu alles wat de pot schaft, maar vind dat overdag niet zo interessant (spelen is veel leuker) en wil dan vooral de laatste paar maanden snachts voor een fles komen. Ook was ze geregeld aan het spoken ‘snachts omdat ze het koud had (en ondanks extra dekens en kruik werd ze nog steeds wakker), tot wanhoop van mama die toch ook echt eens wilde doorslapen! Maar het tij lijkt een beetje gekeerd de laatste dagen en mama doet schietgebedjes dat het doorslapen een beetje doorzet.

Marit 2.5 years old
Marit is a real toddler now. She is growing and much taller than a couple of months ago. Also her hair finally start to grow, and after a haircut at the hairdressers we decided to let her hair grow and for the timebeing to pin the hair together with hairpins. However, that is easier said than done, as Marit immediately removes them from her hair and puts them on Bears head. She talks really well now, and often you hear your own phrases and sayings back, which is funny and confronting at the same time. It’s astonishing how she understands so much already. Ofcourse Marit is also in her Terrible Two’s. This means throwing tantrums when things do not her way, including kicking and screaming. Not always easy a parent to keep your patience, especially with lack of sleep. Marit adores her little sister and sometimes hugs her to death (literally). On other occasions she does not love her little sister that much (particularly when toys are involved) and then she can be quite mean. Which ofcourse we do not tolerate. Marit wants to do everything herself, and can do most things on her own quite well. Like eating and putting butter on her bread, walking up and down the stairs, jumping (her favourite activity) and dressing herself (with a little help from mummy & daddy). She likes to play with clay, to draw, to dance en to read, and her favourite pastime before going to bed is to watch TV like Dora, and Bert, Ernie and Elmo.

Tessa 1 year old
Tessa is really a toddler now and has put her baby time behind her. She is starting to develop her own identity and will, even more so than her sister! For the last couple of months she has been crawling around the house like mad, and now she has started to stand up and pull herself up. She can also say a few words now like mummy and daddy, and can indicate what she wants by pointing to things and saying ‘eh’. Tessa loves being in the bad, and hates it when she has to get out. She also loves other children, and does not mind lots of noise. Almost all of her front teeth are there, and Tessa can eat adult food now. However, she does not find eating that interesting (playing is much more fun) so for the last couple of months she tended to wake up during the night for a bottle. In addition, she was cold during the cold months, and despite an extra blanket and a hot water bottle she still woke up a few times, much to the despair of mummy, who wanted to get a good nights sleep! But the phase seem to have passed as for the last couple of nights she has only waken up once every night, so we’re hoping it will stay that way (fingers crossed!).
