Na een redelijk makkelijke zwangerschap tot nu toe, blijkt ons kind bij een bezoek aan de verloskundige op 09-05-2007 in een stuitligging te liggen. Karin belt direct met Jeroen en dat is even slikken. Karin vertelt me dat we op 11-05-2007 om 8 uur 's morgens terecht kunnen in het Ikazia ziekenhuis in Rotterdam. Een ziekenhuis gespecialiseerd in stuitliggingen en stuitbevallingen. Aanvankelijk dachten wij dat het alleen een intake gesprek zou zijn, maar we konden direct terecht voor een "versie", het keren van de baby. Jeroen kijkt angstvallig hoe er met grof geweld aan de buik van z'n vrouw wordt gemord en hoe het kind met het hoofd na een tweetal minuten daar ligt waar het hoort. Pijn is het gevolg, maar een paar aspirines en Karin is weer "fit". Vandaag, 15-05-2007, nogmaals naar het Ikazia ziekenhuis geweest voor een controle en de baby ligt nog steeds met het hoofd naar beneden. Mooi uitgangspunt voor een natuurlijke bevalling!

After a reasonable easy pregnancy until now, it turns out during our last visit to the midwife on 09-05-2007, that our baby lies in a breech position. The midwife suggests us to visit the Ikazia hospital in Rotterdam, which is specialized in turning baby’s from breech position into normal position. We went there initially only to get some information on what it would involve, but it turned out that they actually could do the turning there and then! Although the turning itself was painful and involved 2 people pushing and shoving until the baby was in the right position (see picture), it was over in about 2 minutes and Karin only had some minor after pains which disappeared after a couple of hours. A final check in the hospital on 15-05-2007 showed us that the baby is still lying in the right position, enabling us to have a normal birth (if all goes well). What a relief!
